Indonesia: The Orangutans of Tanjung Harapan, Kalimantan

Feeding time at Tanjung Harapan is at 3:00 p.m. and this Orangutan reserve had the longest and most difficult walk into the forest, filled with mosquitoes, to the feeding platform. Over slippery branches, mud, keeping an eye out for nasty fire ants (man, does it hurt when they bite) and other beasties, e.g. poisonous snakes.

Quite a few Orangutans came to the platform until a huge male came swinging through the trees above us and made his way to the platform. The others climbed into the trees and watched him munch through the bananas, too afraid to approach again.
