I wrote it all down for you! Go to http://knitsweaterpattern.com to order my e-book, Easy Knitting Design: The Basic Sweater," which contains all the information in my knitting videos.

I do the math and knit the sweater body of our model's sweater. Part 1 covers the how-to. One in a series of videos on designing and knitting a woman's pullover sweater from easyknittingdesign.com

  • I think I used a size 9 (U.S.) needle. The yarn was worsted weight (Cascade 220)--the label calls for a smaller needle, but I tend to need larger needles to get gauge, so I always go up a size or two.

  • Are you worried that using a bulky yarn and rounding up for stitch repeat will give you too much ease in your sweater? And you're asking if rounding up and rounding down are both OK? Yes. But when you're using bulky yarn, the yarn itself has thickness--the outside of your sweater will be greater than the inside measurement (sort of like a donut hole). Try rounding up and down and see how much ease you get with each one. A sweater that is a little too small can be blocked larger.

  • I put the stitch marker between the first stitch I cast on and the last one, so it marks the end of a round.

  • Great idea. I sometimes use a lifeline and sometimes get lazy and just try to handle the knitting very gently so as not to pull out any stitches.

  • Is there a chart I can print out like the one shown in the video?

  • @lademars Sorry, I don't seem to be able to post a URL in the comments, so I'll spell it out. A pdf of the Measurement Form is at on my blog, easy knitting design (all one word), under the Resources tab.

  • Great video and I really enjoy it and I learned so much from it. The only thing that I was missing as you stated to start casing on the 180 stitches on a circular needle but I might have nissed it but what size needle did you use?

  • OMG, your wonderful. Thank you so much. I've been looking for someone the explain the process of not only knitting a sweater but how to calculate it. God bless you, and keep up the great work

  • Paula, if I have to round up the CO sts with the sts repeat patt. , and is the same if I add o susbstrac stitches, what should I do? I'm wondering this because I add stitches for the ease, and wouldn't be a lot? (Thinking in bulky yarn)

    Thank you again.

  • I noticed that a stitch marker was used in the beg rib. I'd like exactly at what point you put the stitch marker on. Is it just before the circular join?

  • There is a simple solution to pulling the sweater off the needles to check gauge without dropping any stitches. If I may suggest using a lifeline. It is a strand of sock yarn threaded through all of the stitches purlwise, before you take the work off of the needles. It saves a lot of frustration.

  • Thanks, got it!
