Mount Vesuvius, lebender Vesuv

Mount Vesuvius (Monte Vesuvio, Mons Vesuvius) is located on the bay of Naples, 9 km east of Naples. The height is 1281 m. It erupted already many times. The last eruption happened in 1944. But the most famous eruption began August 24 of the year AD 79 at noon hour. It led to the destruction of the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
Mount Vesuvius is still active and one of the most dangerous vulcanos in the world.
The film shows impressions of the mountain with the Monte Somma being separated from the main cone by the valley of Atrio di Cavallo.
Partly inside the main cone, smoke is rising.

Der Vesuv befindet sich am Golf von Neapel, und liegt hier etwa 9 km östlich von Neapel. Der Hauptkrater ist 1280 m hoch, der Monte Somma etwas niedriger. Der Vulkan ist vielfach ausgebrochen. Die letzte Eruption ereignete sich im Jahre 1944.
Keine Eruption in den letzten Jahrhunderten jedoch hatte so gravierende Folgen wie der Ausbruch am Mittag des 24. August 79 n. Chr., der die antiken römischen Städte Pompeji und Herculaneum zerstörte.
Der Vesuv ist noch immer aktiv und gilt als einer der gefährlichsten Vulkane der Welt.
Der Film zeigt Impressionen vom Monte Somma, des Hauptkraters und des Atrio di Cavallo. Niedrige Rauchsäulen steigen ständig aus der Kraterwand empor.
