This composition was written by James Quitman Mulholland (b. 1935) and is set to a text by Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-1861), and was performed by the Grand Valley State University Varsity Men on April 11, 2009 under the direction of Dr. Charles "Chuck" Norris. This performance features Dr. Lee Copenhaver on Cello and the lovely Lily Guerrero on soprano.

  • cool. My men's choir is doing this right now. Thank you for a good recording.

  • I am sorry, but the round melodious tones of the tenors classed with the shrill soprano. She sounded much better when she was singing softly. She clearly has a beautiful voice, but had trouble controlling her vibrato, which is a little shaky.

  • @nicholasjames581 I know a lot about singing, and I wasn't really a fan of her vibrato either. I know it takes a lot of skill to do what she did, and that she probably practices hours per day, but I simply don't like the amount of vibrato occurring in her singing.

  • @subarianEra haha, someone has been watching Glee... Glee clubs are traditionally men's choirs, meant for serious, artistic concerts. Real Glee Clubs are still found in most Ivy League colleges

  • I thought the Glee club was a show choir?

  • Knowing something about singing has little to do with knowing when something sounds bad. It's pretty instinctual. Knowing about singing just allows you to understand why.

  • wow. then you obviously know nothing about singing.

  • Disagree. Everything about this performance was great except for the awful screeching of the soprano, not to mention her complete abuse of vibrato.

  • Me too...It was really good and the soprano was awesome!
