35 minute documentary on JPL / NASA's Mars Pathfinder Mission which landed on July 4th 1997. The documentary, which was directed and edited by John Beck Hofmann and produced by Brian Muirhead, won the Gold Plaque award at the 1999 Chicago International Film Festival - Intercom.

  • I remember when I first saw they gonna use inflatable airbags to bounce the thing when it landed -- when the computer simulation showed it was supposed to go "boing, boink, boink" like a beach ball on Mars, I snickered and nearly choked on my Chinese takeout meal, it looked so anticlimactic to the high technology.

  • Wonder if they ever thought about using a Helium/Air mix in the airbags..or is there pyros or such involved that it would have still been an explosion issue?

  • That would really be something to see that big bastard bouncing along , that thing would mess you up even in a car if it hit you going that fast.
