A racist message from a resident left on Bee Kevin Xiong's voicemail who is running for the City of St. Paul City Council seat in Ward 6, which is on the Eastside of St. Paul.

This kind of racialized anger only further divides, destroys, and distracts us. Here in the Eastside, we do not have Hmong problems, White problems, Black problems, Mexican problems, etc. We may have different histories and customs, but we have shared problems that need shared hope and solutions!

We can choose to fall in the footsteps of racial division and allow the Black, Asian, and Latino children over here by Arcade and Maryland to continue to be left behind in public policy and public spending. We can choose to ignore the racial divide in the Eastside and pretend that there are not two Eastsides--our well off neighbors over by Lake Phalen/Hillcrest, and the rest of us. We can choose not to lift this issue into the public and let our silence endorse racism; let the people of the world and all of our children believe that only some people should be privileged with the opportunity to lead. We can choose to let the Eastside be tainted as an unwelcoming place for all people.

Or we can choose to say, "No. Not again here in the Eastside; we will not be divided into the haves and have nots anymore". We can choose to come together and stand united as a whole community to fix the problems that hurt us all--vacant homes, crime, and a faltering lowering economy. We can invest in all of our children and in turn, collectively grow a finer society. We can invest in all our neighborhoods and in turn, collectively grow everyone's property value. We can invest in all of our small and independent businesses and in turn, collectively reap the prosperity of a growing and booming Eastside economy.

  • I pity the fool who is uneducated about the Hmong people LOL yes we own Toyota Corporation. SMH.

  • Stupid redneck don't worry about what we do or our business. Worry about getting your ugly ass family out of trailers park

  • Listen sir, we are hear legally. We helped fight the Vietnum War and practiclly lost more of our people then you americans.( no offense america) And we did every single thing your country asked us to do in the war. Now America invited us in, and, we spread around the land of America it is now our home as well. Now, some of us were actually born in America, so we have the right to do anything as any other Americans in America. And if you don't respect us, don't expect us to respect you.

  • Obviously your jealous. Hmong people have hard lifes, they try and to achieve the best in life. Losers like you cannot understand that because you think your all higher than hmong people. The truth is, your not. If you were in their shoes you'd understand, but since your not, you can take your stupid racism and keep it to yourself. This looks really good on you... not. Stupid racist.
