THE BASEMENT: A man learns of "something else" living in the nooks and crannies of his basement. It's always there... a homonculus. Listening to him.
When I grew up in Topeka Kansas, my bedroom was in a finished half of our basement. I was frequently quite terrified down there. Behind the thin plaster walls were dark crawlways, cellars, wells, webs, rusted pipes, holes to the sewer, holes for mice and rats. In Kansas there are 500 bugs for every cubic foot of soil. I hated it down there in the basement. I saw "Bad Ronald" about a murdering kid who's mom walled him up in the walls to protect him from the police. He expanded his tunnels and peeped on new people that moved into the house after his mom died. From that point on, I always wondered who might be living just behind my walls, living off of our canned foods... possibly for years. Never seen, always hiding when we came down to do the laundry. These memories are the genesis of this story. Please enjoy "The Basement".
Why are people confused by this? Is it the open ending? This is great!
