Wow, more black invention myths.

@chlorph The gas mask was invented decades before Garrett Morgan's gas mask in 1912. The gas mask was patented in 1849 by American Lewis Haslett. Other early versions of the gas mask were constructed by Scottish chemist John Stenhouse in 1854 and the physicist John Tyndall in the 1870s. American chemist and inventor James Bert Garner invented a gas mask to protect soldiers from chlorine gas, and it was the first gas mask to be used on the Western Front during World War I.

@chlorph The first traffic signal appeared in London in 1868. Invented by J.P. Knight, it featured two semaphore arms and two gas lamps. Lester Wire invented a two-color electric traffic light, and it was introduced in Salt Lake City in 1912. William Potts invented the 4-way red-yellow-green traffic light, and it was introduced in Detroit in 1920.
Garrett Morgan's cross-shaped, crank-operated traffic signal was invented in 1922 and played no part in the evolution of the modern traffic light.
