Here are Cathy and Chris Reed, the two-time Japanese national champions in ice dance, at the 2009 Stars, Stripes and Skates benefit in Danbury, Connecticut. Their original dance is to a Japanese folk melody (LOVE the gorgeous costumes) and they even traveled to New York to work with a Japanese dance instructor on the art of their dance. Their free program is to the soundtrack to Angels and Demons and you'll have to see the interview to see which one is the angel and which one plays the demon! :) See complete coverage of 2009 Stars, Stripes and Skates, including interviews with Johnny Weir, Nobunari Oda and Miki Ando at: http://www.lifeskate.com/skate/stars-stripes-skates/ See exclusive photos of Cathy and Chris at: http://www.lifeskate.com/skate/2009/10/cathy-and-chris-reed-at-2009-stars-str...

  • @karaangel1 they originally did represent the US but because cathy was too old for...something they werent allowed to compete in some event. they have dual US and japanese citizenship and the japanese skating federation invited them to represent japan. their sister allison represents georgia because her partner is from georgia

  • @grayandpanther If they wanted to find an instructor willing to teach someone who was *gasp!* only half-Japanese and was not interested in actually doing Japanese dance, but *shock!* changing it into an ice dance to perform in America *horror!*, then it would have been pretty hard to find a teacher in Japan.

A Japanese dance instructor living in NYC, however, would have been much more open to the idea than a traditional instructor in Kyoto, for instance.

  • Their looks is beautiful and cool, their looks so nice! Of course those two guy's English is awsome! But from the point of some Japanese views, the ice dance with Japanese old costume is Not understandable. Real native Japanese skater won't do in this way because old costome, Kimono, is difficult to fit on the ice skating. That means Cathy & Chris have ever spent ther life in western culuture.

  • oh...asian venus

  • I think it is funny how they are American. Why won't that whole family represent the US. She is pretty but he seems awkward. I can't believe their mother complained... :o

  • I'm wondering if they live in Japan because I don't think they needed to go to NYC to work with a Japanese dance instructor on the art of Japanese dance...

  • kind of reminds me of blades of glory

  • they're cute :D

    WASIANS!!

  • They're absolutely amazing. However, they are not flawless. I'm no skater, but I noticed that there were a few moments that their fans were not in the same places when they clearly should have been (due to the fact that their entire bodies were mirrored save for the fans). In my opinion, if they are going to work with props, they should work extensively on the movements of them and where they put them. I've watched their sister and her partner skate, and those two move beautifully together.

  • I think there's something going on....
