classic trike man, real cool.

Just adjust to hi and lo stops on the existing rear derailleur and it will fine for 9 speeds.

Wow, I had no idea these existed in the '70s! Interesting how they opted for cranks behind the axle. Despite that, I guess the low center of gravity keeps it stable.
I could imagine taking that concept (crank positioning, in particular) and redesign it as a quad with higher, more upright seating for riding in traffic. Moreover, a storage bed would be helpful for long distance touring -- there'd be lots of space under the seat!
Ok, now I've totally redesigned your ride. Sorry :-)

@shaigaih Wijk bij Duurstede. You may need a plane with a hitch rack.

The Slingshot tadpole trike did it again. On Sunday April the 11th at 1:00pm I conquered the AMERICAN RIVER TRAIL again in 6.5 hrs. 66 miles round trip. From Scott Restaurant on Interstate 5 to Folsom lake road then back to Sacramento. I have Saddle bags on either side of my rear wheel. Ride or Die trying!

The Slingshot recumbent above did have three chains and three sprockets with one disk brake. I use Sturmey Archer Drum Brakes on the front. and a mountain bike brake for the rear wheel. The bike is 27speeds. and it whisks through the wind like no other. I use Gps to collect speed data. The range in gears allowed me to climb Hyde street in San Francisco. The bike is stable and the frame weight is 38lbs. The Vintage value is high.
