Pennsylvania State Represenative Sam Rohrer on the 10th Amendment...Pennsylvania needs our help! CALL YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE AND STATE SENATOR!!! The Problem: States Under Seige Most Americans - by simply reading the text - understand the nature of the 10th Amendment. It ensures that any powers not granted to the federal government through the Constitution are reserved to the states and the people. However, through various expansions of federal authority, the government in Washington, D.C., has impeded on the powers reserved to the states and the people. This significant transfer of powers from the individual states to the national government came not through revolution, but through ongoing and unchecked encroachments. Now, this federal intrusion on state sovereignty has reached a breaking point.
Below are some examples where national government has or could infringe on state sovereignty: * By collecting taxes from state residents and then using that money to compel sovereign state governments - through the use of "strings" attached to federal funding - to implement programs and provide services in accordance with the desires of federal authorities. * By pushing states toward financial distress by providing financial incentives to implement programs and services without supplying adequate federal funding. * By enacting national laws that go far beyond the federal powers enumerated in the U.S. Constitution. * By potentially providing federal funds to fill state budget deficits, which were created - in part - through over-spending prompted by federal financial incentives to create new programs.
The Answer: Putting Federal Authorities on Notice In an attempt to proclaim and reassert Pennsylvania state government's independence and sovereignty from the federal government, I plan to introduce a House resolution reminding federal authorities about the constitutional limitations on their powers and calling on them to cease and desist with all activities that infringe on the powers reserved to the state of Pennsylvania and its citizens. This is an issue that is currently being addressed by more than 20 other states across our nation. Like our sister states, Pennsylvania must draw a line in the sand and reassert its sovereignty. I am currently circulating the resolution among my peers in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Please encourage your family members, friends and acquaintances who live outside our legislative district to contact their House member and urge them to support this measure to protect Pennsylvania's independence. @denalaurens: You've been watching too much MSM outlets. The "terrorists" will NOT be over here if we don't eradicate them over there. This is pure government/media propaganda. The Patriot Act does NOT protect our borders, they're as porous as ever. The Patriot Act was enacted to subvert the Constitution, pure and simple. And if it's unConstituional for the police/military to turn against the people, why do they do it on a daily basis? Stay away from MSM TV, Dena. Don't destroy your own mind.
Wrong. Your little 22 wouldn't be able to hold off an invasion by another country or terrorists. The Military has strategic weapons and equipment that can detect oncoming onslaughts. Yes, the U.S. military fights mostly overseas to keep the enemies from coming here and fighting on our streets. The Patriot Act is supposed to be for the protection of our borders and other infrastructure. It is unconstitutional for the military or law enforcement to turn against regular citizens.
@denalaurens: You call ME "full of shit"? It's you that's full of shit, you little shit. The military doesn't keep us safe, safe from WHAT! The biggest threat to my freedom is my own GOVERNMENT (Patriot Act). Why isn't our military protecting our borders if they're supposed to "keep us safe", you idiot? The 2nd Amendment keeps me safe.
States use referandums to ask questions on certain issues and laws, therfore, the states put the issues in the hands of the voters like it should be. This gives the people voices. Read the Federalist Papers, which detail and explain the constitution, stating that Congress can set taxes for keeping up the military. The military keeps us safe. and a free nation. You are full of shit and should read the documents yourself and see. LEARN!!!!
@denalaurens: Wrong. The "state" can't cast a vote of, or for, the people. The representatives can cast a vote on behalf of their constituents, but usually don't. The Constitution doesn't say diddly about the People paying taxes for military to "keep us free", That's pure BS. And there's nothing about paying taxes for the "common good of the people". That comes from the Communist Manifesto, NOT the Constitution.
Neo= NEW, Youthful. Hmmm, The conservative movement rippling all across the nation is an indication of what THE PEOPLE WANT. The people have the ultimate authority and control over all governments and even the power to abolish any government such as we have today. Just because your views are libertarian doesn't justify your lies on Palin and other conservatives. Your libertarian politicians are in agreement with the other conservatives. Palin endorsed Libertarian Hoffman of NY that last election
@denalaurens: Now I know you're shill by making such an absurd statement as "The people have the ultimate authority and control over all governments and even the power to abolish any government such as we have today." Oh, yeah? The people of California want to make pot legal. WHAT DID THE GOV DO? The people want out of endless wars. WHAT DOES THE GOV DO? The people want an end to the IRS. WHAT DOES THE GOV DO? The people want state sovereignty. WHAT DOES THEIR GOV SAY TO THEM?
The State has a right to cast a vote of the people. The Fed. govt. has no authority over a state unless the state is tyrannical to its people. The people have authority over ALL govts to do what is right and just. States are already sovereign from the Fed. The constitution says we must pay taxes to keep up our military and help pay for the common good for the people of the U.S., Wars are necessary to freedom. Read the Declaration of Independence, the people can abolish a govt. as we now have.
