  • 0:14 was that a Christmas tree? A Christmas tree in the Soviet Union?

  • @RubberDuckyToy Yes;-) Ever tradition in Soviet Russia, with the roots from old Russia. I think, the first years after revolution in 1917 soviets put out this tree, but very fast have return it back. The only difference is, even now (in non-communistic society), we call it "New Year Spruce", not the "Christmas Tree".

  • It would be very usuful if someone could translate this in english for all who don't know russian

  • @mecenario7 Dear mecenario, usually I don't have many time for youtube, but probably will translate this movie something later. I understand of course, such movies should be interesting for the people around the world.

  • Karpov actually beat Spassky in a private training match 18—6 right before he had to face Fischer for their famous World Championship match. it said this in Frank Brady's "Profile of a Prodigy" book.

  • Karpov looks like all of the Beatles combined!!!

  • All these grim, lonely, melancholy scenes in black and white make me think a murder is about to take place, and not a chess game...

  • How do I get a Soviet girl to fall in love with me?

  • @NorthernUnion the tradition of a family fest in winter did not come from christianity. they adapted it.

The answers to your questions can be found in a number of places on the web, and provide more detail than I can here. Wikipedia provides a concise biography of Karpov, and gives details on his rise to World Chess Champion.

  • @Raddlesby how bad did Kapov kick SPASSKY'S BUTT? who beat SPASSKY worse?

  • @Raddlesby so basically If Karpov could have been in the tournament If he was on the chess scene. He became a world champion in 3 yrs how?

  • @babykevinxoxo

In 1972 Boris Spassky was the World Chess Champion, and Bobby Fischer had won a series of matches to have the right to play Spassky for the World Championship. At this time, Karpov hadn't entered the scene. So, to answer your question, there is no "representing Russia" here. It's the champ--Spassky--playing the challenger, Fischer. If it's 1975 you're referring to, where Karpov won the right to challenge Fisher, Spassky was eliminated in the challenger matches by Karpov himself.

  • Karpov is absolute gentleman..
