Would n't you also hurt your foot if you dropped it on your foot while wearing trainers though. Working out in bare feet is very natural and how we work as a species. Also it will increase leg strength and overall fitness ability. Hence that's why gymnasts & martial artists train this way.
In actual fact, training in running shoes can cause more harm than good (despite what the manufacturers say)
