He's taking something popular in culture (anime/manga) and kicking it up a notch, hes also commercializing his works to bring it to the public. Just like Andy Warhol and his Pop Art. Though Takashi calls his works "Superflat". He asks viewers and fans "to experience the moment when the layers of Japanese culture, such as pop, erotic pop, otaku, and H.I.S.-ism fuse into one."
