Talk of Texas seceding from the US has always existed, and radio host Alex Jones, speaking from Austin, says the sentiment is very strong as of late. The Lonestar State can pull out from the Union whenever it likes, he says, and he argues that the oil-rich state would be much better off if it broke off from the USA.
@DukeofWellington91
it was scotland that merged england, the king of england was scottish, upon the union scotland got more MP's in parliment than the english did, the last two british PM's have been scottish, tony blair and gordon brown, the union is not one sided in favour of the english, far from it

@suvorov4 Lasted a really long time though didn't it? I doubt Cromwell would ever have taken his army into the North and West of the country, unmapped hills and valleys, Cromwell had no authority in large parts of Scotland.

@DukeofWellington91
The English have been defeated by the Scots as well, for example by the Covenanters; but Cromwell invaded Scotland and disbanded their lawful assembly, thus annexing the country.

@hep48 Was its own Republic first - even though for 6 months, still the precedent exists and was set.

@suvorov4 If you knew your history you would know that he never truly subdued Scotland. I am not saying that Scotland has never been defeated in a war by the English, I am saying that Scotland has never been conquered as in annexed. Edward Longshanks at various point had control of much of Scotland but I would not say he had subdued the Scots and within a few years a successful rebellion was well under way and neither of these wars had any bearing on the terms of the formation of the UK.

@DukeofWellington91
Have you ever heard of Oliver Cromwell?
Hint: he is the one who invaded Scotland in 1650.

England didn't conquer Scotland. Scotland voluntarily merged with England because they were broke.
