Williams is a unique community with a storied past. While today's visitors can experience the modern amenities seen in most tourist destinations, they are also invited to personally share in the history and nostalgia of this mountain community. Founded in the late 1800's by ranchers, railroaders, and lumbermen, Williams' name comes from the famous trapper and "mountain man", Bill Williams. Remnants of those early days are still visible in the buildings, streets, and neighborhoods of modern-day Williams.

@evilmacie, even if your a tourist one drive round the town and it's all history, been there seen it many times and even got the a Tee shirt or two!, if it was not for the rail road Williams would be full of ghosts, any way I still like the place even if everyone is out to take all you money off you, there are a lot more cheaper and larger Towns and Cities near by, Williams Hotels and Motels are charging far to much per night, "double the rate" of their sister Hotels and Motels in Flagstaff.
