This is how I cornrow my own hair. Here are a few helpful hints to get your started!

1.Since cornrows are french braids, I strongly suggest learning how to french braid first.

2. practice big french braids on your own head first to get use to the angle you will be working at. If you don't know how to practice on your own head, here is a video that should help! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_AMNWWSUiE

3. It won't be easy getting into a groove, it does take a lot of practice so don't get discouraged!! Remember practice makes perfect! :)

4. If your arms or neck are getting sore take a 10-15 minute break and restart fresh! It will make you nuts if you don't!! lol

Other than that, good luck and tell me how it goes!!

P.S. you can buy really small clear elastics (smaller than your pinky nail!) at Walmart. I don't really recommend the ones from the dollar store they break super easy!!

  • its very hard.i really wanna do it by my self .cant di so hard.:'(

  • @minariz1 yes you can, it just takes practice. This is not the type of thing you just learn in one night in an hour :). When I first learned, it literally took me all day. I was very determined and stubborn to get it and I did. You really have to practice doing french braids on yourself first and once you got that down, it is much easier.

  • Thanks so much! I did this and it worked very well for the first time. The parting was pretty easy but the braiding was the tricky part. It look so good that the other black girls at my school couldn't believe that I did it on my own. Lol. : ) thanks a bunch!!!

  • @iluvthebass3 :) Good job! It's a tough style to do especially if you are just starting out!

  • ok so i do this but then it always ends up loose and looks like a just twisted my hair together, help?

  • @AnitaNeang practice makes perfect! you just have to remember to take small pieces of hair at a time and every time you add a piece of hair to the braid you tighten the braid to keep it near your head :)

  • @PecsInDaCity Just like anything you do to your hair, (pulling hair into a tight ponytail, curling, straightening or colouring your hair) does some sort of damage to your hair if you do it repetitively. Like everything in life, it's all about moderation. Doing something like this once in a while is completely safe :)

  • I love you. I hate girls with beautiful hair and the most they can think of in the morning is to run a brush through it and walk out the door.
