Hello polos505, if you place the stress on the first syllable in the word present you are using this word as a noun (for instance, I received a present yesterday), but if you pronounce the word present in the last syllable then you are using it as a verb (for instance, I will present them my plan tomorrow).

Why american teacher like teaching their students the stress? What about the vocabulary and the Grammar?

what does it mean to stress a word? This may sound like stupid question(maybe it is) I just don't know it.
