Previously pipe couplings were assembled standing at a bench. Parts for assembly were selected from pallets. Assembled products were lifted from the bench to a pallet. Employees often complained of sore backs and shoulders. Risk assessments highlighted a number of manual handling hazards. To reduce risk of injury our Works Engineer designed and constructed an indexing carousel. The carousel has a number of assembly stations. Employees work both standing and seated avoiding static muscle loading. Lifting equipment, conveyer and adjustable height tables have reduced bending, reaching and lifting. The table took 6 months to construct.
