Why are you proud to be british?

I understand the general sentiment, but it surely isn't based on this video.

I'm a former royal marine officer. That was a video of a chap randomly firing rounds somewhere.

And?

Forgive me folks, but where on earth is the excitement here? It's not exciting.... It's a very normal part of the job. In fact the gunner himself looked bored. Because... well.. it was probably kinda boring.

This is exciting for a civilian, to see a browning heavy machine gun firing bursts of .50 cal lead flying down the range.

@Nosteratees Well, I agree about hollywood. Its 99.99 percent bs. Not to say the men who fought in the european, and african theatres didnt face unimaginable fighting ; but much of our fighting (and probably the greater portion of our casualties) was in the pacific. In which they literally would have to be speaking japanese. As the japs would often outlaw the native languages of conquered lands.

@GritHawke You didn't personally but there's far too much of this "if it wasn't for us you'd be speaking German" crap floating about on youtube and I think that Hollywood can carry some of the blame. Take the film U571 which showed the capture of the German enigma coding machine by an American Submarine. In fact of the 15 captures of enigma coding stuff only 2 weren't British. This is just an example of what we like to call... LIGHTS!...CAMERA!....BULLSHIT!­!

@GritHawke Invited??!!!! It wasn't a feckin party! It was a WORLD war. Churchill pleaded with the Americans to get involved before then but was rebuffed because few in the US wanted to get involved in a war that didn't directly affect them. Don't get me wrong, as a British citizen I am eternally grateful for US soldiers, sailors and airmen that fought to help rid Europe of the Nazis but please note the word "help". You didn't do it all by yourselves as Hollywood would have you believe.

@grantdawg07 Oh and by the way, the United States had time to arm up before they were forced into ww2. While the rest of the allies were holding the Nazi's at bay, the result would have been the same just would have taken longer. and don't you get started on the U.S sending supplies, most of the supplies sent were from canada, the U.S adds a few supply ships to each convoy and they act like it was all them.
