Now I've done it - I've gone all Bobby Dylan on ya with an Electric 3string Guitar! This is my first tape rehearsal of Brian Eno's haunting song "Golden Hours". It's always an interesting challenge to do guitar arrangements of Eno songs, but in this case the real challenge is Fripp's part ;-)

[NOTE: This song is still pretty raw, but I think I may have found an approach I can work with.]

  • Are you doing St Elmo's fire? The solo in that is incredible and I've yet to see one person try to even attempt it. I've searched forever for tabs or someone who can do it by ear. Could you do it? Or even an interpretation of it? Because this was impressive and i'd like to hear others.

  • @SuperCunt5000 - The St Elmo's Fire lead is INSANE and I don't anticipate mastering it any time soon ;-) Structurally, one big difference is that in Golden Hours he stays pretty close to the bar, while in SEF he wanders quite far from it, almost "doodling" over the rythym tracks. Since I play solo, I need to carry the rythym and underlying chord progressions (usually on the lowest string or utilizing the barred fret) while playing the lead. I really don't think I could do that on SEF.

  • excellent save the fact that you try and sound like axel rose. great job on the solo.. i have always have trouble with it

  • @moosetricks - Axl Rose? Really? Young Axl or Old Axl? (Don't answer that.) Actually I thought I sounded like Ian Anderson on a weak day. But hey, music is subjective after all.

Yeah that solo is infamously difficult, so I don't even try to imitate most of Fripp's fingerwork. But actually I have a better way of doing it now, which sticks closer to the melody lines of Fripp's lead. One day I'll upload a new take.

  • Wow, I loved this - - way better than I expected. 1:53 was incredible... keep up the great work!

  • Ton interprétation est émouvante est pleine d'esprit. Merci.

  • So interesting to hear such a keyboard-heavy song moved to guitar. Really enjoyed it, especially your playing around the 5:00 mark.

  • Love this so much -listen to it daily!

Thank you for this. Eno would love it, I'm absolutely sure of that.

  • Another easy 3string setup: use the 1st, 2nd, and 4th strings (E B D), then move the lower 2 strings over one notch and tune the D string up to E for a high open E tuning.

  • Glad you liked it! More Eno coming up soon. As for the setup, I have different guitars tuned in different keys, but the setup is always an open rock chord (1-5-8) with the strings sitting in notches 1, 3 and 5. In this particular video I am tuned in the key of B, so the strings are B, F#, and B.
