I agree, the laws are ridiculous and it's a shame. They don't seem to realize that an interest in chemistry is just that, and not drug dealing or terrorism.
I recently ordered a butane torch from overseas being significantly cheaper than purchasing one here. I wouldn't have expected there to be any problems, being a simple lighter similar to ones already available here. Regardless I received a letter from customs saying they had seized it.

They will usually check all packages that contain liquids or powders. They may let them pass through but they'll definitely flag the receiver and see how many he receives.
Unfortunately, we are living in a nanny state. If you are in America you should fight to preserve the freedoms you have before you turn into us. Its funny how the politicians you have keep shouting about freedoms but do everything they can to erode them. All in the name to fight xxx-ism/Drugs/etc. .

I will let you have a note of legal advice. An individual in the state of Arkansas will go to prison if you are caught in posession of a triple neck flask. At least it was when I went through law enforcement training.

@yearsmith are there any permits, licenses, or registrations needed to obtain such flasks?
Unless Arkansas is also indirectly banning scientific research there must be someway for legitimate businesses or hospitals along with their researchers to obtain the materials needed to perform their very necessary roles in society.

@NurdRage I will call a few friends still in law enforcement, and double check. I will post what I find out. Also viewers in the US may wish to become a small private lab. Get all permits, and other licenses. The common thinking in law enforcement is that there is only one use for a 3 neck flask, An illicit lab. Watch your purchases and check the level 1 and 2 levels of watched chems.

@yearsmith Thanks! In canada (where i am) things are pretty straightforward, there are a few permits/licenses that need to be obtained and the lab must be located on industrially zoned land rather than residential. And even if it's a hobby it must be registered as a business (which are easier to track). If everything checks out, we can start doing chemistry.
Then again, i really AM part of a company that needs to do research anyway. I'm not sure if things can be streamlined for hobbyists.

It's not "illegal" to sell MOST chemicals to individuals in the US, but the major suppliers like Sigma, Baker, Alfa Aeser won't because their lawyers have told them the market isn't worth the liability issues. A handful of narcotics do require a license, untaxed ethanol requires a BATF permit, and a few chemicals are on the CDTA watch list that requires reporting of suspect buyers. (some of those are fairly innocuous: obviously the DEA isn't informed every time someone buys almond flavoring)

Interesting.
You Americans have a much easier time with this.
In Canada (where Nurdrage is) there are laws regulating the sale of chemicals and permits/licenses must be obtained to do so.
