Growing a beard by sheer willpower - in easy stages

A short video demonstrating the lost Welsh art of dynamic facial hair control or "barf-rheolaeth" as the ancients knew it.

Here we see grand-master or "Meistrolrheolwr" Ashley Jones showing how a beard can essentially be broken into five key components. Not many will attempt this unconventional approach to barf-rheolaeth, but few have quite as much time on their hands.

The clip is speeded up so as to not waste your time, but you can clearly see the five stages of barf-rheolaeth:

1. Ymerodrol - the "Imperial" is the easiest part and can be grown by even a novice in a matter of seconds.
2. Demwstas or "right moustache" takes a little more effort. Not suitable for women.
3. Aswymwstas or "left moustache" - tickles more than hurts.
4. Debarf - goes without saying.
and
5. Cyfanbarf - "the whole beard" this takes real skill and should not be attempted without proper supervision.
