General Electric would like you to know that every 7 seconds, someone goes from Point A to Point B with the help of GE jet engines used by more than 200 airlines. (Including JAL, Alitalia, British Airways, Lufthansa, American, United and Air Canada, based on what you see here.) And that "the jet engine of the future," the GE 90, is its awesomest yet.

They'd also like to string together a bunch of places you could potentially go using said GE-aided jets in a catchy little tune. Here's as many as I could make out:

Tokyo and Kokomo and Marrakech and Budapest and
Sydney, Monte Carlo, San Diego, Santiago
Barcelona, Arizona, Bora Bora, Glockamara
And Siena and Vienna and New York and County Cork

St. Petersburg and Uruguay and Malibu and Paraguay
Rome and Santa Fe and Cincinnati and LA
And there is Canada and Malaga and Rimini and ?????
New Delhi, Kansas City, and a town without a pity*

*I don't know about flying there - doesn't look like there'd be an airport nearby. Maybe you'd just get pushed out of the jet flying over?

  • A commercial that aired in May 1995.

  • @withoutanygreen And earlier - this copy's from a March 1995 "This Week With David Brinkley" episode.

  • Lemme guess...are Kokomo, Marrakech, Glockamara, County Cork, Malaga, and Rimini cities in Africa, the Middle East, Ireland, Scotland, Australia or Florida, and Italy respectively?

  • Not quite. According to Wikipedia (good enough for background and bar bets), there are multiple Kokomos, including one in Hawaii, and a Jamaican island owned (and since renamed) by Sandals. Glockamara is apparently IN County Cork, Ireland. Marrakech is Morocco, Malaga is Spain, and Rimini is Italy.

  • @Northeastern292 *International

  • I like how they include the CFM Internation with the United 737.

  • Series 90 engines were good, but I bet they'd have shit themselves if they knew how powerful and efficient the new GenEx family of engines are that we have today. Almost twice the power with a third less fuel.

  • GE, coming every 7 secinds to an airport near you. that is classic

  • Coming every 7 seconds to an airport near you. How hiliarious!

  • Nice commercial!

  • I think it's "a town without a TV." "Pity" doesn't make a lot of sense, but then neither does showing a fox hunt in County Cork, because I think that's a British thing.

Not sure what is after Rimini. Looked like a statue, possily European?

  • Wasn't there a Beach Boys song about Kokomo?
