Some random footage from the Battle of Gettysburg reunion during the 75th anniversary of the conflict, filmed in 1938. The Battle of Gettysburg was fought during the USA's Civil War, from 1-3 July, 1863. The veterans shown here were from the war in general, not specifically present at the Battle of Gettysburg; that battle, seen as the most important single one during the war, was simply used as the rallying point for a general final reunion of the veterans, Union and Confederate.

  • No sound?, it wasnt that long ago no sound?

  • @GameCenter2009

No, there was no sound with most of the video taken at the 1938 Gettysburg reunion. However, there were also sound videos taken, so some of each. These segments here just happen to be from non-audio cameras.

  • This comes from Ken Burns civil war documentary. IT's fantastic

  • If by "fantastic", you mean the clip, I agree. If you mean that Ken Burns' so-called documentary is fantastic, I can't go along with that! The number of errors in it is astonishing, even mis-matching names with pictures in the introduction!! It's quite appalling.

  • This is our WWII veterns today folks. Lets let em know what they mean to us while we got them

  • Amazing indeed ... it's almost a mind blow seeing Civil War veterans on video ... Odd to think that around that time they were just about like WW2 vets today. We really should appreciate and respect those WW2 vets still with us! Salute out to them all ... my grandfather included!

  • The Old Coot knows how to dance - God bless them all!

  • @CLewey44 Yes - I am in my 40's and my grandmother used to change the bandage on her grandfather's foot every day when she was a child. He was a Civil War vet who was wound in the heel. It remained open the rest of his life and had to be dressed daily. He was a Confederate but I shamefully don't know which battle he was wounded in. It's amazing to think that I knew a woman so well, who knew a Civil War vet so well. It really wasn't that long ago!

  • They say that the WWII Americans are of the Greatest Generation. And yes, they are pretty great. But, those who fought in the Civil War, both North and South, fought their war in their own front yards, in their own towns and risked their own wives and children in deciding what kind of nation we were going to have. Sounds like a pretty great generation to me.

  • @SageofHistory I second this idea

  • This is amazing...The Civil War seems soooo long ago when you're a kid. The older you get, the more you realize that these people were my grandparent's grandparents age. Crazy.

  • The fellow at 30 to 32 seconds looks exactly like my grandfather. I know he's not the same person though, otherwise that would make my age really high.

  • Awsome.

  • @MrPontiusPilate Average age of the soldiers, during the 75th anniversery, is 93 years old. I have the video. Its great!

  • Anyone who ignores their history is a bigger fool.
