At the global, national and individual levels, we need to cultivate a culture of prevention to address threats before they materialize instead of reacting when it is too late. This is all the more relevant in the face of enormous global challenges such as pandemics.

What can you, as an individual, do to prevent catching and spreading influenza in a pandemic?

Five simple actions:

Wash your hands

Cover your mouth

Keep your distance

Separate your sick

Dispose of your waste

  • This is very good advice, but I've seen a lot of people panic about catching the swine flu. I've already had it, and unless you have other medical issues, there's no need to worry. :) It's not fun, but it's really not as bad as people have made it out to be. I agree, we need to be careful to stop it getting worse, but getting too worked up about it can only make it harder on people. ^^ And if you do have other medical issues, just call your doctor right away if you start having flu symptoms.

  • I've never had a cold or flu attack in my life (I'm serious as well). I've had a stuffy nose at best. Stop fucking around trying to be super clean thinking that it will make you safe. The ironic thing is, it's probably being clean that makes you ill. You body can't build a defense (anti-bodies) against the germs you're trying to avoid. Use your heads.

  • @wtfps3pwnsxboxlol Well, in 1918, it was really Bird Flu, but, it could be called Spanish Flu.

  • Well it makes sense but in the meaninig of protectig the people around you... REMEMBER: you are not alone... If you have the flu, by covering your mouth when you cough you protect others...

  • how does covering your mouth when you cough protect yourself??? makes no sense.

  • wow you are so stupid, where do i start?

    1. 1918 was "the spanish flu"

    2. surviving one strain of a flu gives you no immunity from another strain

    3. if you were old enough that you survived the flu of 1918 you would have to be atleest 91 now, so your immune system will be weak.

    you fail

  • 1977 virus, 1918 was h5n1

  • @ thecheeky123

Swine flu is NOT a big deal, it's mortality rate (rate of infected going on to die as a result) is lower than normal flu last i checked.

  • I think this video is very cool

  • I've already had it

  • OMG I THOUGHT SO TOO!!!

  • Swine flu is actually not as bad, it doesn't spread and isn't as dangerous as other flues.
