Pumpkin Bowl Regatta Oct 2011. (WVYC) West Vancouver Yacht Club

The Pumpkin Bowl was awesome the boys had lots of fun They met sailors from all over BC and the USA and the hospitality of WVYC was exceptional they even supplied a cool huge inflatable boat and crew for parents to get out on to the ocean and see there kids in action a real treat for most. This is one of the biggest if not the biggest Optimists regatta held in BC with a total of 69 Optimists 50 in the Red and Blue fleet and 19 in the Green fleet.
Super star Ren which is usually 100 meters ahead of his brothers was behind Leo almost every race. It was a light wind regatta so Ren (age 13) is a bit handy-capped. He also said he had a infatuation for one of the hot girl sailors ??? that was distracting him! Out of 50 Sailors Ren came 26th over all 11th in his fleet, Leo (age 12) 16th over all and 6th in his Fleet. Neo was in the Dark Green fleet and they don't score your results but he says he came 1st once. To put this in perspective all 3 boys only started sailing mid summer( 2 months) they have sailed once in the ocean with no waves and had little experience in light wind sailing and tactics. They didn't have all the cool gear like dry / wet suites fancy life jackets in fact there was concern that sailing in jeans would get them cold but the weather was great, and they had the 3 best boats from Whistler Sailing association (WSA) which where pretty competitive hulls and sails.
It was a little dodgy getting all the components together Patrick WSA's Commodore was confident about getting the boats and there coach down there was a last minute save. " a little bartering helped" There Coach Francois is top notch and the boys really like him Its nice to have a male mentor / coach .
This video I spent 2 days filming and 2 days editing I am high-lighting the Boys, Whistler Sailing, West Van Yacht Club and the Pumpkin Bowl event from behind the seen's perspective, Its not pro quality and I need a video stabilizer as some of it is a little shaky but for anyone that has never sailed or been in the event they should enjoy it and if you didn't have the patients to watch the whole thing then you probably don't have the patents to sail.
