In 1964, the Kingston Trio ended its long-time association with Capitol Records and recorded the last four albums of its initial ten year run on Decca.
One of the gems on those later albums and to many fans still the quintessential representation of the Trio's sound was "I'm Goin' Home," known almost equally to Kingston Trio aficionados simply as "California." Written by real-life hobo Fred Geis (who later lost a copyright infringement suit based on "unconscious plagiarism" for this song), "I'm Goin' Home" has remained a classic of the pop-folk genre for more than forty years now.
The Chilly Winds' performance of the song at the 2007 Mountain Music Festival gets an able assist on five string banjo and vocals from good friend Josh Fuller of Kansas, an outstanding musician in his own right who also accompanied former Trio member Bob Haworth throughout the three days of the festival. The steady bass accompaniment is provided as it usually is by the best musician at the festival, "Scooter" Dave Batti.
