Brian Holland in concert at the annual WEST COAST RAGTIME FESTIVAL.

It was wonderful to hear him play this HOT tune composed by James P. Johnson entitled, "Steeplechase Rag."

The festival is in mid November each year and offers a tremendous array of wonderful ragtime and traditional jazz musicians.
Brian has a wide selection of CD's available, and you can drop in on the websites above to find information about Brian and other great festival performers.

I hope you can be there next year!

  • Hey, really nice. I've been looking for this sheet music for a while. Would oyu mind telling me where you picked it up?

  • My name is Tom Warner, and I am the videographer, not the Piano player. Brian Holland is the piano player in this video. I wish I could tell you where you could find the sheet music, but I don't know. You might try eBay or Amazon for starters.

    Good Luck,

    Tom

  • Evanissmo, this piece has an alternative title, "Over the Bars". JPJ called it "Steeplechase Rag" on some early piano rolls, "Over the Bars" on some later recordings, if I am remembering rightly. It can be found in a book published by Hal Leonard called "Jazz, Blues, Boogie, and Swing for Piano".

This version by Brian Holland is the best I have ever heard. This is amazing.

  • Thanks for your delightful comments!
