FIVE BROTHER recorded on the `noorderzonfestival met speciale guests Jan Menu bariton saxophone

"Five brothers" played Festive Minor composed by Gerry Mulligan.
recorded by vidimah NoorderzonFestival. 23 aug07.
Back from oblivian
Five Brothers is a song from the repertoire of the Gerry Mulligan/ Bob Brookmeyer Quartet.
This was one of the many quartets lead by baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan in the fifties and sixties.
The music was extremely popular and Mulligan and his people played on most of the world's greatest jazz stages.
Nowadays the music has almost completely passed into oblivion and is hardly ever played,
but the saxophonists Laurens Blinxma and bassist Bert van Erk think it is worth the effort to breathe new life
into this music and in addition have included some numbers of their own

  • huge jazz following of us jazz in EU ("common market" they called it then) in fifties and sixties, lots of US jazzists moved there, of went to earn a living. Film "Mondo Cane" exemplified jass prowess of EU, and dudes like Lars Gullen, on Bari, got through, and were almost unknown here. 'Blue Note" records picked up a huge slack though.

  • Still beautiful!!

  • dank je wel ik zal ook dit jaar hopelijk weer. Een nieuw clipje maken.

  • Ik mis helaas al jaren het Noordezonfestival; dit is van internationale klasse. De bariton is van een Lars Gullin - kwaliteit. Super!

  • thank you

  • Hì Widi

I am back in the 50th lessen to this! Great

    to hear!

Always like no piano settings, such as Gerú, Chesney and Brookmeier!

    Full hand from me!

  • a beautiful song and a nice performance
