question was whether he had anything to say about the protesters outside, who had begun setting up long before the Dalai Lama's lecture began at 2 p.m.

The Dalai Lama said he used to follow their practice, known as Dorje Shugden, from about 1951 until the early 1970s, but that he had given it up because it was intolerant of other Buddhist teachings.

"This is just spirit worship," he said. "After I read more about it, I realized my mistake and dropped my practice."

He added: "I think 99 percent of Tibetans follow my practice. Some small portion worship this spirit. I am committed to freedom of speech, freedom of talk. So I say to them, enjoy freedom of talk."

  • China secret agents paid for Shugden Society in Tibet and around the world. They did not show Tibet flag as Shugden protest. We should give them Tibet flags.

  • it is terrible to discriminate and intimidate your own people

  • it is convenient to blame china for everything and not take any responsibilities for your own actions.

  • This deity, Dorje Shugden is the same nature as Je Tsongkhapa they are the same person performing different functions. Many Dorje Shugden sadhanas state that Dorje Shugden is the embodiment of the Guru, Yidam, and Protector, where Guru refers specifically to Lama Tsongkhapa.

So, do we keep guru samaya by following DL's instructions? Do we break guru samaya by keeping our vows to DS?

  • oh btw, i must say i'm quite tickled that you think that i'm one person trying to be 12 people. i don't see what that would achieve.

TibetHeart - i feel you are very passionate about Tibet. I wish you many tashi delek - be happy and well.

  • TibetHeart - er yes.. i'm definitely NOT theredniece or anyone else in that list you mention. I have a facebook account and i am a real person, not tht it really matters. I do often agree with what theredniece says in her comments and we haunt the same sites, as do you, but im sure there are more people i agree with too. i'm a happy dorje shugden practitioner - i don't wish to convert anyone to be a dorje shugden practitioner, but i would like to share a message of peace & respect to all.

  • Cultural and religious harmony with an exception: Dorje Shugden practitioners. Persecution towards Dorje Shugden's practitioners everywhere in Tibetan monasteries and community, practitioners are outcast, monks are divided, the holy Gaden Monastery and Sera Monastery have to be divided because of Shugden issue, friends become enemies...what harmony? why this exception?

  • "Please, international community, judge whether there is a problem or not. Go there and investigate," he told members of the Dutch parliament on the final day of a three-day visit.

In the case the majority of people genuinely are happy, then our information is wrong ... and we will have to apologise to the Chinese government. Dalai Lama, June 06, 2009
