Another point is that people only become poor when they allow religion and conservative ideals to fool them into taking on nasty jobs, having 14 kids, and living in the middle of nowhere. I'd bet that a single, child-less man in this village could sustain himself easily by selling fruit on a corner, or else he could just move away with no family/religious restraints. But no, they have 14 kids and wives by age 16, just like poor people in the US, and they literally "get knee deep in crap".
