Tom Seaver pitching AGAINST the University of Southern California Trojans.

Tom is the starting pitcher for the Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks in the video.. the one in red. Those who know Seaver's delivery can tell that it is him.

As far as I know, this is the ONLY existing footage of Tom Seaver as an amateur ballplayer.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Its a minor miracle that this footage even exists... it was found buried in 6000 feet of movie reels, which were converted to DVD in 2008 - with absolutely no knowledge of what was on the reels.

The game was incredible.. read all about it here, so you can follow the video:

  • Cameraman - Ivan Thorell

  • Just read the story that is linked from the description. That is how I figured out which game it was. The final score was what nailed it first, and then I could tell by reading it how everything else fell into place. Too bad the cameraman never heard of zoom.. but even having this footage is a minor miracle. Thanks!

  • @thedomster999 I was wondering about that. I'm wondering if it's the same Steve Barber who pitched for the Orioles and other teams, because I believe he was already in the major leagues by then. I also noticed some other major league players that I remember: Eddie Leon, Andy Messersmith, Craig Nettles, Dan Frisella (later to be one of my favorite Mets), Al Schmelz, Mike Paul--- and, of course, Tom Seaver. By the way, even though we didn't see much of Seaver pitching, I think that I recognized

  • Are you sure thats Tom Seaver? It looks like he's getting bombed. Andy Messersmith was also on that pitching staff? Wow! Steve Barber wasn't too shabby either.

  • I stand corrected!

  • A 5-year-old Sarah Palin huh? You betcha!

  • I am pretty sure I saw Sarah Palin behind 1st Base.

  • Hard to tell. But you can see that at around 2:12, the man pitching is a lefty. We know this because he is pitching from the stretch and his back is facing third..... Making him a lefty.
