The Weir House is located in the village of Ulapane, half an hour from the tourist town of Peradeniya. Ulapane is between the towns of Gampola and Nawalapitiya. The House is set on a hill and it is necessary to climb several steps to get to the house. The concept of a best time is not applicable at the Weir House, as it is pleasant all through the year. Since we are situated in what is Sri Lanka's Wet Zone we get greater rainfall than in other areas. The positive side to this is lush greenery and amazing landscapes. Sri Lanka's monsoon season is in May/June and in October, but as with most parts of the world that are affected by Climate change, Weather patterns in Sri Lanka are now unpredictable.
The Weir House Accommodation
The Weir House is designed with laid-back living in mind. The house has four bedrooms - named after the spices that are cultivated in the surrounding region. Kurundu (Cinnamon), Inguru (Ginger), and Karabu (Cloves) sleep 2 people in each, while the larger room Sadikka (Nutmeg) can comfortably accommodate four people. Bedrooms open into gardens or verandahs where you can dawdle over a morning cup of coffee. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom - with hot water showers powered by solar energy. The house has a spacious living room with 270-degree views. The living room is equipped with all the necessary modern day comforts, including cable TV, a DVD player, and a stereo with an Ipod connection.
The Weir House Facilities
Gardens
There are three main gardens - replete with fruit trees and indigenous plants. Mornings are heralded in with a chorus of birdsong - and early-risers are rewarded by sightings of myriad varieties of birds.

Benches are tucked away in different corners of the gardens, allowing you to steal away with a good book - or just spend time meditating on the landscape. The shallow pool with in-built Jacuzzi spouts offers a cool respite from any arduous activities that you may have indulged in during the day.Beyond the gardens the property stretches uphill. Pathways lead you to the furthest corners of the Weir House. If you are curious about the origins of your morning brew or the contents of your pepper mill - a quick exploration of our small-scale pepper and coffee plantation will prove to be quite educational. The gardener will also be happy to walk you around vegetable and indigenous herb gardens.

Cuisine
Holidays are meant to be time out from chopping and washing up - and so cheerful cook, Lesley, comes with the house. Lesley is known for his fabulously tasty, homely dishes that smack of Asian spices and ingredients.

Breakfast at the Weir House is a choice of western style omelettes or waffles, or Sri Lankan rotis or hoppers. Dinner is usually a three-course meal that blends eastern and western elements. If you wish to stay in for lunch - then Lesley’s classic Sri Lankan rice and curry should not be missed.

The pantry is well equipped for guest use - so if you are suddenly inhabited by the spirit of your favourite celebrity chef, please feel free to venture in and get some sauces bubbling on the stove.
