Joe Nemecheck shortly after running the fastest lap of the day WITH NO DRAFTING HELP, he was either running with a larger restrictor plate or possibly none at all, this is his 2nd lap and the first was even faster. You can hear him lift mid way up the back straightaway then accelerate halfway through 3 and 4.

  • From Jayski.com:

The initial restrictor plate size was 29/32 inch and the initial spoiler size was 4 ½ inches tall, 63 inches wide, which was the same spoiler size for last July's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona. By day's end, the size of the rear spoiler had been reduced to 3 inches tall by 62 inches wide. The smaller spoiler results in less down force and drag, but still allows the cars to maintain high speeds and remain under control.

  • @RealRacer2442 Thanks for the info. NASCAR.com also published an article saying Nemecheck and Truex Jr. ran 2 qualifying laps with a 1" plate (biggest opening since the into of restrictor plates) and smaller rear springs to get the back of the car down (explains the bottoming out through 3-4) but there was no speed listed for those 2 laps.

  • Did they get an official speed on him?

  • @Altamonteric The video is 24 seconds long from turn 2 exit through the tri-oval.The track record is a 42.78 lap at 210mph. I would guess this would be close to that time.

  • there was no restrictor plate on the car. someone said he must have gone atleast 230mph!! JOE NEMECHECK HAS BALLS!!

  • @XxzippyDaSqurrielxX That's interesting about the rear springs. I mean, if drivers have to lift getting through the turn, I think there's no reason for having the plates in the cars. Just let them race.

  • I hope NASCAR does this for next year. That would be insane!

  • @XxzippyDaSqurrielxX 203 MPH. . its on Jayski.com, I think they moved the restrictor plate was moved up in size to...

  • From where you can recognize the car entering turn 3 to the entry of the trioval it takes 13 seconds. I measured that distance on Google Earth, it turns out to be at 218 mph in that section

  • Holy shit. That was INTENSE.

  • Holy balls. O_O
