@TheHerpaderpderp I would like to add one participant to that discussion, if that's okay with you: Albert A. Bartlett. As far as I can judge, Mr Bartlett is as unknown as Mr Wolin -at least here, in Belgium, or even in the whole of Europe (as a comment to what jazzbo66zz has written on this page). Democracy, on the other hand, is as maimed as it is in the USA.
Extremely interesting man, Wolin.

Education is key and it has to remain public otherwise it will have to be an all out revolution in the future

@QuickSilver402 I agree with you.

Would love to see Wolin and Chomsky have a discussion.

Sheldon Wolin is genuinely brilliant. Democracy Incorporated is the most penetrating study of the workings of right wing political power written in this country since C wright Mills; The Power Elite in 1956. I am not sure why no one knows about him. What he explains is terrifying and almost intellectually suffocating. I have had some difficulty thinking about anything but his book since reading it as it seems to reconfigure things I thought I understood.

rare truth spoken
Interestingly, people with intellectual capacities on the level of Palin derride "leftist intellectuals" as part of some sort of 'elite intellectual mafia.'
Reading and listening to such measured and careful analysis, from brilliant people like Wolin, is so vastly important for our society that it seriously scares me that their ideas can be shoved under the rug by the politico-argumentative equivalent of "Nerd!"

Yes, political philosophy is always about the real--the true.
