Most modern Christians say that Genesis is not literally the truth but rather some sort of a metaphor. But, WTF? What kind of a metaphor is the Genesis story? Metaphors take a complex subject and make it understandable by way of an experience to which the reader or listener can relate. How, in any way, is the Genesis story a metaphor?
God created everything out of nothing, yet had to steal a rib to make a woman?
Literalists believe in the infallibility of the bible. The first 2 chapters of the first book refutes this. Gen 1:20-30 animals created before man; Gen 2:4-20 animals created after man. Both can't be true, one is false, proving fallibility.
According to the literalists, Noah and his family would have to have a lot of incestuous and wife-swapping relations to repopulate the planet.
Wow. I used to read (and believe) that shit. I guess I don't recall the story Lot too well, at least not the part about incest. Too bad I already stopped believing in pie in the sky and monsters under the bed, though.
