Here is Data's definition of friendship: "As I experience certain sensory input patterns, my mental pathways become accustomed to them. The inputs eventually are anticipated and even 'missed' when absent."

While Data doesn't feel sadness or pain, he does feel a sense of absence, which may create the same empty feeling we have when loved ones pass away.

If I were in Star Trek Next Generation. I would go to the holladeck and make a duplicate of myself and watch myself nail that psychic chic and right before I were to mutherfuckin' climax I would scream at myself, "Steady as she goes!!!"

This was a dumbed-down version of the dialog in 'The Immunity Syndrome'...

MCCOY: Suffer the death of thy neighbour, eh, Spock? You wouldn't wish that on us, would you?

SPOCK: It might have rendered your history a bit less bloody.

"...if we felt any loss like we felt the loss of a loved one, human history would be a lot less bloody" is the understatement of the century. Could you imagine if we felt the same way towards a total stranger as we do for, say, our son or daughter? We would be such an advanced civilization. Just think about that statement. What if?

Hmm that guy talks so incredibly slow, horrid accent included. Jesus...

And he loses any credibility by pointing out plotholes that do not even exist because they result from his own lack of brain.

And not pointing out the most obvious plotholes at the same time.

Like "How did picard know defiant was salvageable..he didnt look on a terminal" Jesus..most typical movies cover at least several hours in 2 hours. Not even a star trek thing. In every movie characters do stuff the audience doesnt see

Nope. When Tasha died he also had no emotional chip. Data just realised that there is a difference between a frind's and a stranger's death

this is why star trek could work quite well as a kind of new religion.
