A misty flight on Spreckels Lake in Golden Gate Park, as seen from the tail of the model Canadair CL-415 now dubbed "The Spreckels Bombardier." I've wondered for a long time what it must look like taking off and landing from the water, and today I found out it looks Awesome!

S.F.P.D. thought it looked pretty cool, too! They rolled by afterwards and gave me a thumbs up and a nod.

Here's what I ordered from Hobby King:

2x #L2205-1350/14739 Turnigy L2205-1350 Brushless Motor (100w) = $19.84
1x #CL-415-KIT/16548 CL-415 Canadair 1390mm (ARF) = $40.30
8x #TG9e/9549 Turnigy TG9e 9g / 1.5kg / 0.10sec Eco Micro Servo = $15.60
2x #TR_P30A/2164 TURNIGY Plush 30amp Speed Controller = $23.08

The kit does not come with motor mounts. I ordered these from Heads Up RC, and they work well:

2 Plastic Mounting Stick with 1.5 inch base plate @ $1.75 = $3.50

  • Love your choice of music! You never hear his stuff anywhere! Pretty cool seeing you go through the fog on the water! How do you like the plane? I am going to buy one for a float ly that we will be having in a couple months...

  • @gooniac33 Thanks! Ulrich Schnauss's Knuddelmaus is a great vibe for this kind of flying. I love this plane... I posted the parts list in the Description for you. I have some other notes, I'll send along. I'd love to come to your next float-fly and meet some of you guys!

  • Some notes... The instruction manual sucks, of course. The wing strut clevises that come with the kit need to be reinforced with zip ties and a drop of hot glue - as they can pop off in mid flight, otherwise. Also, I recommend extending the leads from the motors in the nacelles to the fuse, where the ESCs are best kept dry. The system runs well with a 2200mAh 3s battery, but will take a 2650mAh 4s comfortably.
