@biotonk Fripp has commented that ItWoP and the McDonald and GIles LP, taken together, truly constitute the 2nd KC LP. Ian may disagree of course. The unrecorded KC tune "Trees", from which only a small part of "Birdman" was taken, is an amazing foreshadowing of the 'feel' of McDonald and Giles, and showcased a side of the group that is really not present on the first LP.
just think if the band had continued for just one more album !!! "in the Wake" as it is, is still a 5 star album .... but could you not imagine a parallel universe with all the original members intact !
