  • Love the way Hodges and Carney blend the two heads together...

  • Best American musician of all time. Play his pop songs for ever, but no way other musicians will ever replicate his arrangements (not heard hear)--the inimitable sound of the reed section with Carney, Hodges, Procope, Jimmy Hamilton, and the ultimate grooving tenor man Paul Gonsalves. Still the only album that sells is the iconic Coltrane-Duke session, a quickly thrown-together date like this video. Hodges could bend a note over 2 octaves, as on "Blue Rose."
