The Dan Ryan Rebuilding, Pt. 8 - What Part of NO PARKING...

You won't see any actual construction today; what you will see are a bunch of arrogant assholes who think they're above the law.

For the first time since December, the city scheduled street sweeping today. They put up big orange temporary "NO PARKING" signs on the trees a few days ago naming today as sweeping day.

So when the street sweeper came through, guess who was blocking his way? Walsh Construction trucks, dump trucks, workers' personal cars and, earlier in the morning, even a flat-bed semi whose dispatcher took a real attitude with me when I called and explained the situation and asked if the driver could park a half-block north so the sweeper could get through.

They're not supposed to park on residential streets AT ALL; they can be fined by IDOT if they do. I let it go and don't bother my contact at IDOT too much about it. I don't bother him when they start banging away at 6:30am when they're not supposed to start until 7. But you can bet he heard an angry earful today. And the word must have gotten around that I was videotaping; the trucks disappeared.

Video cameras seem to have that peculiar magic;-)

No, they're not allowed to park on residential streets. Ever. And since the new alderman's gotten involved with this issue, they don't. And if they were working on the Edens Expressway they wouldn't even try parking on residential streets in Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Skokie and Wilmette, because the residents and elected officials up there would have nipped in the bud the first time it happened. And if you don't know that, YOU'RE the stupid one.

And learn how to spell.

you're such an idiot. you complain and complain and complain. never happy. they are rebuilding your neighborhood cuz it is such a dump, and you're complaining about where the trucks are parked. You don't even have a car, or a job, i guarantee you walk everywhere or ride a stolen bike

Good for you! Here in my little Ohio city we get no warning and the streetsweeping schedule is sporadic...so I never have warning enough to move my van for sweeping...unless I am on my bicycle and see them coming!
