Steubenville, OH (mp RO16)

NS #3404 (SD40-2)(ex. CR) +
BNSF #9277 (SD70ACe) +
BNSF #9441 (SD70MAC)(ex. BN) +
115 cars

-- The Conrail SD40-2 leading the pair of modern EMDs is required due to cab signals in former Conrail territory. The unit will be taken off at Rockport Yard near Cleveland, OH and the BNSF units will be at the head end all the way back to the Powder River Basin coal fields.
-- This train is returning empty coal hoppers from the coal fired Cardinal Plant at Brilliant, OH, less than 10 miles down the Ohio River from where this train was filmed.
-- In the second scene where the locomotives are headed away from the camera, the train is about to pass under the Fort Steuben suspension bridge. This bridge, built in 1928, carried U.S. 22 over the Ohio River until the adjacent cable stayed Veterans Memorial Bridge was completed in 1990. The Fort Steuben bridge was closed in 2008 and will be removed beginning in 2010.

  • I think ive seen your forum on trainboard before....so what brings you up to steubenville to do railfanning?

  • good old fashioned work! our company has an office in steubenville and i was up there to do a software/hardware installation for a new product line.

  • It is a very good Video but why arent they using the BNSF supplied power alone, if it is an empty they should not need more than that one SD70ACe to pull it anyway.

  • the lead locomotive in cab signal territory must be equipped for cab signals. the bnsf locomotives are not; the former CR unit is. it makes for some great colors on this train!
