After tons of rumors, Amazon finally met our expectations and announced their Amazon Kindle Fire, a 7" Android based tablet. Despite my love for Apple, I'm very seriously considering picking up one of these. Why? And will this be the iPad killer? Watch for my opinion!

Ultimately, I don't think Amazon's Fire is trying to compete with the iPad. With a $199 price tag, the Fire is intended to be a media consuming device. That is the reason I'm interested in it! Since the tablet market emerged, I have wanted something small, cheap and simple to read books, browse websites and watch streaming content on. The only thing that turns me off a bit is your need to be an Amazon Prime member, which requires a yearly fee. What do YOU think of the Fire?

  • am getting one

  • @Dudewheresmybars fit in a pocket easier.

  • Having said that I wonder how you can "easily" justify having both the ipad and kindle fire. What is one thing the kindle fire can do that the ipad can't?

  • Calling a ipad a portable computer is too generous. That would be saying that ipad is used for productivity. It might be so a little but it's really just an elegant consumption gadget. Go look on the top selling app charts any day of the week. It's ALWAYS games and entertainment on Top with a fraction of them being actual apps for utility and work.

  • Transformer Prime! !!!

  • I was thinking of getting it, but im leaning towards a transformer Prime with Quadcore processor, and Ice Cream sandwich version of android, with a lot of nice things and of course very thin.

  • if you eat good you don't keep it in your body for ever .... consume and on to the next o

    One

  • this is perfect for me because I already have a gazillion computers/laptops and other music devices. I, like you, just wanted something that I could consume media/book/videos on the go. Surf the web, check my mail, etc. I don't need to do business or anything major. Just a fun gadget to carry easily. Also, the price is great!! I feel good about that because It will do everything "I" need it to. I'm a big Kindle fan anyway so the fact that it's expanding just a little makes it great!!!

  • it is on my christmas list!lol(:

  • I want to know how much the service for amazon will cost after the trial. The device is cheap but it seems to good to be true. I think amazon will make up for selling so low overtime with the services used to promote it in the 1st place. In long term becoming more expensive than the ipad
