For the first time of the 2010 season, college football has a new top team. The defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide were unseated as the number-one team in the nation after a big upset from the South Carolina Gamecocks.

The Ohio State Buckeyes, with a 6-0 record, took over the top spot as the USA Today Coaches Poll and AP College Football Poll were released on October 10, 2010.

Other top teams moved up, including the Oregon Ducks, in second, Boise State Broncos, in third, and TCU Horned Frogs and Nebraska Cornhuskers, who rounded out the top five in both polls.

In other big moves, the Arizona Wildcats fell out of the top 10 after they were upset 29-27 by the Oregon State Beavers.

One of the most-anticipated games of the week also had major consequences in the rankings, the battle of the Paul Bunyan Trophy between the Michigan State Spartans and Michigan Wolverines. Sparty rallied to a 34-17 win, prompting their rise to 11th in the Coaches Poll while Michigan dropped to 24th.

Week seven marks the final week before the Bowl Championship Series standings are released, with ESPN carrying the BCS Countdown Show season premiere on Sunday, October 17, 2010. Early projections suggest the Boise State Broncos will be the number-one team in the BCS rankings, followed by Oregon, TCU, Oklahoma and Ohio State.
