They have spread to almost every waterway in the southern 3 quarters of the country. Their habit of sucking the mud while foraging for food has disrupted breeding patterns for some of our native fish and made all our rivers dirty. They breed so fast and eat the fingerlings of our native fish so much, that they have taken over and our natives were in danger of dissapearing all together. It takes about 2 minutes to catch a carp in most places. It's illegal to put one back after catching it.
