Final War - A worst LTTE suicide attack on soldiers foiled - March 13, 2009

Another LTTE attempt to paralyase the forward march of the war heroes engaged in humanitarian operations by launching a suicide attack has been thwarted.
the vigilance exercised by the troops foiled a massive disaster that was to be unleashed in the Pudukkudiyiruppu area on troops of the 58th Division. An LTTE cadre had come in a vehicle to cause the massive destruction where there were a large number of soldiers. The LTTE had planned to launch a heavy attack on the FDL after the attack and infiltrate it. Vigilance of a heroic soldier of the 20th Gajaba Regiment under the 581st Brigade of the 58th Division of Brigadier Shavindra Silva averted this attack. The suicide bomber was destroyed in the explosion as a result of an attack launched by the soldier. It is believed that the vehicle had been laden with 350 kilograms of explosives. The damaged caused to the surrounding area bore witness to this.


Our Representative Sujith Vithanapatharana said tense prevails in the Wanni battlefield as fierce fighting is in progress. Infantry forces are being assisted by the Armoured Corps and the Artillery Regiments.
Meanwhile the LTTE cadres are abandoning their automatic weapons and firearms amidst the onslaught by the Security Forces. The 681st Brigade of Lt. Col. Lalantha Gamage under the supervision of Col. Ravipriya of Task Force Eight and guided by the 53rd Division of Major Gen. Kamal Gunarathne has recovered a large haul of weapons. The LTTE has procured them with the assistance of various regimes and NGOS. This is believed to be the first time that an anti-tank weapon had been recovered.
