Poulenc's masterpiece, Priez Pour Paix, always moves an audience. This clip is from a live concert, May 2, 2010, at the 12th century church Notre Dame de La Réal, in Perpignan, France. Mezzo-soprano Robin Hendrix sings, with Michel Prezman accompanying. The 15th century French poet (and hostage of the English) Charles d'Orleans longed for the end of the war of his time. He implores the Virgin to encourage the saints to pray to her son, the Savior. The hostage demands that Christ look on His people, for whom He has already shed His blood, and save them from the ravages of war. The poet-hostage begs the Virgin never to stop praying for peace, which is the true treasure of joy.
