Hayley Westenra sings Gabriel's Oboe (Whispers in a Dream) 'live' on the Channel Nine (Australia) show Mornings with Kerri-Anne. The orchestral accompaniment is that of the famous Italian film composer Ennio Morricone's own orchestra and the music was composed and produced by him. Hayley Westenra herself wrote the lyrics. The final verse was omitted on this occasion.

Many thanks to Jillian ably assisted by Seb, in Australia, for this video!

You can buy this song on Hayley's new album Paradiso which has so far been released in New Zealand, Japan and Australia, with the UK and USA to follow in August and October respectively.

  • she is one of the presents God has given us to feel love *-*

  • There used to be a version that Hayley sings with the Italian lyrics. What happened to that? Maybe Sarah made her yank it off the internet.

  • @katzparov I don't think our respective information contains any incompatible discrepancy. As I said Brightman added the lyrics (with Morricone's permission) , but they were not in anyway his creation and where obviously not his favourite verbal expression of the song as he has not used them here on his own album with Hayley. I assume Morricone signed off on this version. Either way it's a little inaccurate to say Morricone composed Nella Fantasia, or that it is a different song to this one.

  • @lrsul1 I remember hearing Sarah Brightman telling the story of how lyrics were added to the composition.

She said she asked Ennio Morricone for permission to add lyrics and he declined. Sometime later she again asked Morricone for permission and he again declined. I forget how many times she said she requested and how much time passed in between, but finally he gave in and granted permission to have lyrics added.

    This is what she said.

    Perhaps, you have better info.

    Thanks for your reply.

  • @katzparov it is "Nella Fantasia", only Morricone didn't pen those lyrics, or even endorse them. They were added to the music of Gabriel's Oboe by Sarah Brightman (or her people). I suggest Morricone wasn't a big fan of what were rather meaningless and gushing lyrics as he has created this version for Hayley. She is so amazing, but better yet we get to experience the sentiment of this masterpiece as the composer would have it.

  • This sounds very much like Nella Fantasia, which of course was also composed by Ennio Morricone.

    This is absolutely beautiful !!!

  • i bought the album..fabulous.

  • imo the music is superfluous. Hayley's voice is the only thing I hear anyway. She could sing this a capella. On the CD her voice is softened and unnatural. All of Hayley's CDs are produced that way. Hayley is best live.

  • Voice of angel, keep it up:) try to sing the song Hare Krisna... wow with that voice is very beautiful thank you. ::))

  • @Arnetsew Agree, wrong mix here. Her voice too much louder than music which is different than the CD. Not her fault anyway.
