Mercy St. Mary's has been recognized as the number one hospital in the state for joint replacement, and patients say it's no wonder.
Roy Moore is back on the road again, riding his motorcycle, thanks to a hip and two knee replacements.
"Thank goodness there are replacements now. Thirty years ago I'd have been a cripple."
Moore is one of thousands of patients who've had successful surgeries at Mercy recognized by Healthgrades. Dr. Matthew Nadaud says the patient plays a significant role.
"A motivated patient makes a great difference in the post-operative course."
Technology has also led to better outcomes.
"With the new bearing surfaces, with the new types of plastics, with the new types of implants we can use, we actually expect most of them to last more than 20 years."
Which is great news for patients with debilitating joint pain.
"The main goal of joint replacement is to relieve the pain."
